When law enforcement told her to “stay vigilant,” Sheridan did what any woman in a psychological thriller would do: she grabbed her dogs, ditched the city, and hit the road toward a safe house somewhere off the grid. I Gave Up My Favorite Home, My City, and My Sense of Safety
When I left the city last week, I thought I was escaping chaos. I packed my life into storage, drove off with my dogs, and told myself this was a fresh start, a retreat, a spiritual cleanse, maybe even the soft-launch of a more peaceful, creative era. But here’s the thing: chaos is surprisingly portable. It fits neatly in the backseat next to a duffel bag and a half-empty Starbucks cup, and it has a nasty habit of following you no matter how far you drive. I’d left behind the man with the tracking app, the police reports, and the crumbling illusion that professionalism meant safety. What I hadn’t left behind was the exhaustion, the kind that seeps into your bones and makes silence feel like suspicion.
